About me and this electronic notebook

Safety first in the field

I am a PhD student at the Quantitative and Applied Ecology Group (QAECO) and Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity and Risk Analysis (CEBRA), University of Melbourne. This is my research notebook for all things related to my PhD.

My research interests include:

  • Ecological modelling
  • Structured Decision Making
  • Plant ecology
  • vegetation management
  • reproducibility
  • data science
  • R

I’ve used the template from https://github.com/sirselim/electronic_lab_notebook to set up this electronic lab notebook using blogdown and the static site generator hugo.

When I’m not working you can find me riding (or carrying!) my bike in this weird sport called ‘cyclocross’:

Cyclocross. That weird cycling discipline where you sometimes carry your bike instead of riding it.

About this notebook

The theme used it this example is a slightly modified version of temple, which is a minimal, distraction free theme suitable for electronic notebooking (in my opinion). If interested, you can find a large list of hugo themes here: https://themes.gohugo.io/

The overall setup requires each notebook entry (post) to be assigned at least one category, i.e. Experiment, Reading, Writing. All entries will then be grouped under these headings at the top of the page. The ‘home’ page of the notebook contains all recent entries, with the most recent date first. Entries can also be tagged (i.e. R, regression, analysis, literature, …) which allows further refinement in terms of grouping posts and searching for specfic topics.
